Ram Charan isn’t settling for any crazy calorie swings. Instead, he limits himself to 1,800-2,500 calories a day and employs a strategy called carb cycling to get the job done. He keeps carbs low to maintain his lean and focused body, which elevates them as needed to support intense workouts and re-energize after deep relaxations like Ayyappa Diksha.

This mix provides just the right amount of fuel without bloating, making it ideal for the hard work involved in his role, which also has strict vegetarian periods tied to personal commitments and Diksha (fasting) times such as Ayyappa Diksha.

Uddiyar splits his training into days of weightlifting and days of akhada-style drills (no rest days for him):

Monday, Wednesday, Friday: Heavy weightlifting and fasted cardio for building strength while burning fat.  

Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday: Functional weightlifting, kushti (traditional Hindu wrestling) drills, and mobility exercises to strengthen muscle, joints, and mobility for life.

It’s more than a bodybuilding workout. The other tasks are peppered with traditional equipment and movements that create the physique and strength.

Beyond the split, Ram Charan’s sessions regularly feature:

  • Gada (mace) training
  • Surya Namaskar flows
  • Rope pulling
  • Traditional akhada drills
